Vanessa, the San Francisco OptX female DoA players, was recently the first guest of Epileptic Gaming's Season 2 show. I have something to admit here... before joining the management scene in eSports, I did not watch EG. That is not to say it is a show about professional gaming because it is not. It is, however, a show with amazingly talented hosts, who play as much as the Penny Arcade kids (which says a lot), and still happen to keep us up to date with the important events that happen in the professional gaming scene. The draft is over and I have the most wonderful 10 gamers on my team. I have not been posting everything that is going on here on my blog, but will be later this month when I am living in LA shooting season 1. I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to talk about this finally. Starting on May 21, I joined an amazing team as General Manager of the CGS San Francisco franchise. There is a ton I want to say about this, but I have Defender VO to right, so it will have to wait, but count on hearing more about this new venture soon.

The Championship Gaming SeriesTM (CGS), the first worldwide professional gaming league, announced today that its first six franchise teams will be based in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, and Charlotte.

In addition, CGS named the six General Managers for these city-based teams. Drawn from a mix of pro gaming stalwarts and luminaries, they represent a new generation of leadership in the world of gaming and will be responsible for shaping the most competitive gaming teams in history. The list of GMs includes the following individuals:

I love a good advertising gimmick. I have spent too many hours in war rooms with slightly insane and terribly talented creatives to miss a mentionable effort. In case you bought a bag of Doritos at your corner store in the last couple days (which I do often - in love with the new BBQ flavor dipped in mexican cheese dip from the restaurant on my corner), you may have seen the generic black bag labeled "X-13D".

On the bag is printed:
"This is the X-13D Flavor Experiment."

Any agency who tries to pull a packaging or otherwise meaningless marketing stunt is an immediately absorbing opportunity, so I shell out the 99 cents...

Last week, it was reported Doug Perry was finally leaving IGN after 11 years. This morning, I read Curt Feldman left gamespot.com as News Director, and Luke Perry was leaving IGN. I am interested to hear what Curt has in store for the future and wish him the best (he is a frackin cat who always knows whats about to break). The news about Luke, however, makes me sad. I will admit I was a little fan-girl and can't imagine my podcasts without him. little tear in my eye...

I was reading my daily GamesPress Digest this morning, and saw Scott Steinburg's book Videogame Marketing and PR is now available for free PDF download. I never caught it the first time around, but I will download anyone's free PDF and read it long enough to grasp the type of information and the basic point of view he is coming from. Three cheers for smart forms of Digital Distribution. When talks about cutting publishers out of the loop has become dirty talk in the industry, there is something clean and pure about getting content directly from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Holy crap. This is the news I woke up to this morning. When I was 20 and working in advertising for The Easley Progress, this super hot red-headed editor handed me a copy of Suttree by Cormac McCarthy. "He is better than Faulker, " he said. "Read this." And since I needed conversation starters with my future husband, I read the novel... and that was how I discovered my favorite author of all time.

McCarthy does not give interviews to the press, in fact I've only seen two photos of him at all, but somehow Ms. Oprah talked him into to not only allowing his latest book, The Road, to be her book of the month, but he is also appearing on her show!

This is one of those Jesus moments you hear about in church isn't it.

(addition) Cormac McCarthy's The Road has been awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Reuters' broadcasts in Second Life

Reuters today announced that it will be launching a news bureau in the game Second Life. Starting Wednesday of this week, the news service will provide text, photo and video news from the outside world for those in the game. They will also provide Second Life news for those outside the game at secondlife.reuters.com/.

Adam Pasick will be Reuters' virtual bureau chief, and goes by the name of Adam Reuters in game. He ventured, "As strange as it might seem, it's not that different from being a reporter in the real world. Once you get used to it -- it becomes very much like the job I have been doing for years."
