Xbox 360 Backward Compatibility Finalized

News for nerds writes "Microsoft has finally announced [1]the list of the 213 Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360 at launch. A software emulator is required for each original Xbox game, which means you need an HDD for these games to work on Xbox 360. While it is expected that the list will grow in future via Live update, as of now it lacks first-party titles such as Project Gotham Racing, and other popular titles such as DOAU/X, Doom 3, Far Cry, KUF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, the Splinter Cell series, and the SW: Battlefront series." Xbox.com is also featuring an [2]interview with Todd Homdahl about the quest for compatibility.

those are some pretty big titles to be leaving out

Wow, very limited backward compatibility + X360 title delays, this system launch is looking weaker and weaker each day.

What? 216 titles is not exactly very limited backward compatibility. Thats actually quite a bit more than what I expected.

Also, my guess is that the emulator is probably not quite advanced enough yet so some of the more complicated operations are probably not coded for it yet. That is my guess as to why some of the big titles dont work on it since they probably use a lot more complicated code than a lot of the lower end titles.

Barbie Horse adventure is not a lower end title, haha...oh who am I kidding it belongs in the 5 cent bin.

i guess then the next question is..how long till those games become compatible with the emulator?

I'm only referring to the launch itself, I should have been clearer in my previous statement. I look at the list of compatible games, and the list of X360 games available at launch, and I see no reason to rush out and spend $500 for this next generation of gaming.
