Playin the Jade Empire
So I bought this game with the intention of doing one of them handy dandy video reviews for GTtv, but someone over there beat me to the punch, so I defaulted to Psychonauts. Bad news? I am out $50 bucks. Good news? It made me buy the game!!
Who else is playing this? I am only 8 hours into the game, but so far my impressions are...
- Modified console RPG combat theory introduced in Fable
- Brilliant voice acting and script
- Predictable gameplay (think KoTOR I with a different storyline, if you played it, there is close to zero learning curve)
- Slightly distracting Asian females. They went all out with the models. How do you guys get through the game?? I even had trouble concentrating.
- Needs more high level puzzles
What do you think?

I definitely want this game! It looks fantastic. And the little I know of the "storyline" intrigues me as well. From what I've seen, the combat system looks pretty fun, too.
Slightly distracting females, huh? Ever play Dead or Alive? I think they started that whole bouncy bounce fighting female craze.
I can't believe you had to pay for it, though. I thought journalists get all the games for free.
And on the whole GTtv thing....good for you! I think you'll do great. I mean it.
I'm not just trying to be a saccharine suck up. :)

Man, Jade Empire's a stunning game. I loved it.
The graphics could be slightly better, but, as is, it's a wondrous game. And I thought I'd never play an RPG again.
As far as Psychonauts, man, what a lot of fun. I had revisions of the old days of Mario 64 as I played it. Good ol' Tim Schafer. :D

it's a big misconception that journalists get free games! i wish. we get review builds, which can't be played on retail systems...and we have to destroy those when the game goes gold; we might get one retail copy of the game but that's for the company game library, for all to share. still, it's pretty cool that i haven't felt the need to buy a psp yet since i can borrow one of the office ones whenever i want. :P

Yes, I like Tim Schaefer. Full Throttle was one of my favorite games of the 90's.
I guess he's one of those "low radar" game designers who consistently puts out great product but doesn't get the attention some of the big guys does.

Not usually. I called Ziff Davis today in order to borrow their copy of Psychonauts, and their retail copies were still MIA. Btw, Jane is TOTALLY a *bigboy*

Tim Schaefer is also a bastard. I applied for a position on the art team of Double Fine a few years ago. Never got a call back.
Bastards! :)

Ziff Davis doesn't have it? Sounds like a problem with the publisher.
Blame Majesco! Blame Majesco! -apologies to South Park
