Splinter Cell movie in the works
"Paramount Pictures recently announced that they have acquired the rights to make a movie based on the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) will be directing the movie. Berg will also be writing the script, along with Splinter Cell game writer J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin (Man of the House). Paramount says that the goal of the film will be to combine the series' stealth action with a "dynamic, original" character."[via: Evil Avatar]

Get George Clooney as Fisher.

Clooney isnt ruthless enough to be sam fisher. I think that Val Kilmer would be a good Sam fisher, after all, I enjoyed the saint, and he was in a "splintercellesque" black body suit at one point in the movie.

Tis gonna be a sweet movie alright. Clooney or Kilmer, maybe kinda cool, and although I can Imagine Tom Cruise in the role, it's probably a bit too similar to the MI series but who knows!
How about Tom Jane? He was pretty ruthless in Punisher?

please, please, PLEASE, anyone but ben affleck! is is so worn out!!!
i think clooney probably would be a good choice, but a relatively unknown actor would definitely be the best choice!!!
how about the guy who did 'punisher'? just a tho't...even though i didn't think he was near as ruthless as he could have been...give him another chance maybe???all i know, it's gonna be an awesum movie!!!!!

Clooney, maybe; Val, nah, batman is not good enough. However, the main problem with a unkown actor would be that Fisher is fair old (for an actor to play) by which point unknown actors normal give up. I wonder if they based his appearence on a real bloke? And if so, would he play Fisher in the movie

Michael Ironside would have to voice the character of course but going with a no name would be the best way to go.It seems when you go with a no name you don't have the expectations of what he has allready stared in then toy can just relate to him better.

Splinter movie could be awesome! But history tells us game-movies usually suck. (Resident Evil, Spuper Mario Bors, Street Fighter) And there is only one who could play Sam, Michael Ironside. I know Sam best by his voice and his remarks. Get Ironside in a gym, give 'em some hair! And eh.....you won't get a good look at Same anyway. He is lurking the shadows...

clooney would be the best choice in this movie ruthless wouldnt be the word for sam he has dark humor but hes profesional and has morals sam is a soldier and a soldiers state of mind is to get the job done and do what your told and i think clooney could pull that off he has the attitude oceans eleven he was a pro three kings he was a pro this should be easy for him to pull of but i think we all know what were waiting to know ....will he pull of the split jump or will a stunt double.

personaly i think clooney should be sam hes got the attitude of a professional(oceans 11/12 three kings) and second thing sam isnt ruthless hes a soldier and the soldiers attitude is do what he needs to get the job done sam pulled it off phsycologicly and physicaly all in all go with common sense peace

Michael Ironside might be able to do it well because the voice would sound familiar, but he looks nothing like Fisher. I can't believe no one has sugggested Kiefer Sutherland (from 24). die his hair black, and its the spitting image of Fisher! He even sounds like him! He can easily play an intense and ruthless character. Every time I see him interrogate a terrorist on 24, I think of Splinter Cell. If they don't use Kiefer, I will be very disappointed.

Michael Ironside. PERIOD. end of statement. all you guys are rattling off all these names, just because they are popular. NOT based on merit. (dont get me wrong, most of them have some talent) the only reasonable suggestion so far (besides Ironside) was Sutherland. (for looks only. doesnt sound a thing like Mike) regardless, Ironside helped define the character! I just cant understand why you guys arent naming him from the start...
Posted by
Victor Slaymaker |
9:45 AM, April 28, 2005
Sutherland or Ironside. Sutherland is a good actor with alot of potential. I could definitly see him as fisher. he looks just like him and with a similar voice. I would also love to see Ironside play the part but his face doesnt fit it. From the game the voice is what you remember most but if they could pull it off and get ironside to look more like fisher, hes got my vote.

I think Bruce willis would be a good pick. He's very intense and a proven action character.

5:41 PM, April 28, 2005
I agree with Victor Slaymaker.
Ironside defined the character.
He can play Sam Fisher out of the spy suit, and have a double who is very acrobatic play Sam Fisher in the spy suit, and when he talks it will be the voice of Ironside. Ironside is good for the role, because he's old enough, but I don't think he's in shape to do the acrobatic moves. Look in Star Wars Episode 1 the guy who played Darth Maul did the acrobats, but when he spoke it wasn't his voice. Or just forget any actor, and just make the movie completely computer animated using Ironside as the voice. That way there is no more debate on who in physical form should play Sam Fisher. And in a computer animated a
character can do more things than an
actor can do. No strain. And It's true that so far game movies that have come out in the past sucked.

The only person who could really pull off the role of sam fisher is michael ironside himself, he already does the voice overs, and he is the personality that comes out in sam during the game. he's also about right as far as the age goes. as far as the look, he's still in great shape and anything else will be fixed up in true movie fashion: make-up and CGI. that's the opinion of most everybody in my unit here in iraq as of now. see you all later.

I say that this movie will be the movie of the year. And that Sam Fisher looks like George Clooney, so he should play the role. O also think that if Clooney trys, he can pull this off. He can have a really straight/pocker face in any movie. So put in the Batman!!!!

2:10 PM, May 03, 2005
I think they need to get someone who is relatively unknown, and who is acrobatic , in great shape ..getting him to look like sam fisher is not hard , and if all of you are saying george clooney just because he remotely looks like the character of sam fisher ...that is the worst reason to just jump him into the character... he is not athletic enough , nor could he be without computer graphics... but you can make someone look old or like a certain person very easily , with are excellent makeup technology and such. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head.. and i have been trying for two years now to think of the perfect sam fisher , so basically i settled on someone who could physically play the part then make him look like him..

Thomas Jane anyone? If you saw The Punisher (and if you didn't, you don't really have to - it aint all that good), then you know he'd be a kick ass Fisher. I mean for chrissake - how many movies - sans Street Fighter (what a friggin disgrace that hour and a half waste of film was) - actually try to make a carbon copy clone of what you see coming out of your XBOX/PS2. Come on boys and girls, let's live dangerously for once and all rejoice in the fact that 1.) None of us have a choice and our voices will not be heard - 2.) They will pick a SUITABLE Sam Fisher no matter who the hell it is - and 3.) The movie aint going to be contending for an Oscar. So let's sit back, enjoy the ride, and pray they don't try to throw some kind of streetfighteresque hunk-o-hippo-heap at us just for the sake of it being "Splinter Cell - The Movie". Have a nice day.

the chararcter of sam fisher is one who has always sat on the outskirts of society, and when his country (or the world) needed him, he was there. the game also makes references that he was active during the gulf war, but even in "2007" for chaos theory, he's still an active agent. because of his supreme experience, the age of the actor is going to be the defining point - clooney, sutherland, ironside all fit the bill quite well. and let's not forget, CGI, stuntmen, and the main actor all work together to deliver a coherent, believable character.

People, people, people. This movie would fall apart with out the voice of Ironside as Fisher. All other actors mentioned are good in their own right but have no real connection to this character. I'm mean just because you have done a military/war movie doesn't qualify you for the most stealthy of American spies! If that was the only criteria then Josh Hartnett or Charlie Sheen would qualify as Fisher potientials. Truth be told, I think having Ironside play Fisher would be an incredible cap to his career. And for those of you who believe Ironside couldn't pull this role off, I've got two words for you Starship Troopers!

I say with a little bit of cardio and some facial hair, Alec Baldwin would do Sam Fisher some justice..plus..it'd be nice to see Alec re-invent himself from downward spiraling career..no one would see that coming..thats for sure.

Micheal Ironside IS going to be Sam Fisher No doubt about it. I don't know if you guys have looked at the credits but micheal ironside plays sam fisher in the game. My guess is to make the voice match the character they based his looks on michael ironside. I'm not sure how good this movie will be though. I mean sure a stealth game was fun, but can you imagine watchin a movie where someone just sneeks around the whole time. It would be kind of boring. Also from what i've seen movies based on video games arn't all that great. Watch house of the dead and you will get what i'm saying. nonetheless i'm a big fan and i'll watch the movie with the best hopes.

I agree with those who said that ironside should play the part. though he does not look like sam at all. The biggest thing here is the voice. thats who make sam fisher, the voice is the live of sam fisher. I also agree that clooney is the best pick for the part but the only way to pull this movie off without a hitch is to have clooney in the full black body suit with the black mask and do an ironside voice over. Clooney is too recognizable to have a dub over is moving mouth of ironsides voice. If this does not work the best method i think would be to send to a maya team and make it a cg movie. I will be extreamley pissed if this movie is to hollywood. If the is people jumping off of roofs with a swinging rope and an exploding tank of gas behind them i will be pissed. Too hollywood that would be. If they make it like a chick flick where at the end he kisses some hot girl after saving her from her doom while the sun is setting i will be pissed.

Mission impossible 2 Tom is looking for the necklace and hides in the shadows of the bathtub with, what's that!?!?!? a five'O'clock shadow. it's the shadow that does it.

All of you are ridiculous. Stop reading the stupid interviews with Peter Berg. Ironside will not be doing it. He is too old, out of shape and not even remotely similar to the appearance of Sam. There will be no CGI action with an Ironside voiceover. There will be no Ironside actor or acrobatic stunt double. Clooney does not work. He's too sacrcastic and cute. Tom Cruise could do it, but won't. No one wants to juggle a career on a game based movie. Bruce Willis could definitely pull it off. Kurt Russell? STOP READING THE INTERVIEWS. It will be somebody that no one knows and will not be voiced over with Ironside. About 10% of the people that will see this movie will probably ever play Splinter Cell. They will not know the difference between Ironside or Pat Sajak. COME ON PEOPLE. Think outside of the box.

i know yall will probably throw this idea completely out but think about it kevin bacon is almost perfect for the part he's tall and crazy and has that dark essance that makes sam fisher all he needs is the corrective makeup that all actors have to play a more accurate role bacon has the deep voice except when he like yells but exactly when does fisher yell... and he's more than enough to play off the aggresion he's a really talented actor it may come as a complete suprise to you all as it did for me but he's a perfect part and meets all the criteria of sam fisher

everyone is looking at the more built actors but sam fisher is lean not bulky built george clooney is more stout than lean and wouldn't work well in fisher's body suit kurt russel would be good but he has an accent which really makes no difference but he is also not quite lean enough to play the part it would have to be either kevin bacon .... or hey what about mel gibson

Okay, people. Bruce Willis would be a good choice for Sam because he is an action-oriented actor and he kinda looks like him. But his voice is too high. Personally, I think Kiefer Sutherland, the guy off "24" would be the best choice because he can do the voice, he looks like Sam, and he probably wouldn't have to be paid as much as Bruce Willis. Oh, and he has slightly graying hair. That is my comment. Thank you.

Hello "Splinter Cell" fans:
I am a journalist with The Wall Street Journal, and I'm writing a story about Michael Ironside and "Splinter Cell."
I have some questions I would like to ask his fans about his voicing Fisher in the video game.
If anyone is interested in talking or e-mailing with me about him and the game, I would be very grateful. I can be contacted at john.lippman@wsj.com
Thank you.

i think the suggestion of kurt russell is a good one. i think the best choice would be harrison ford or kiefer sutherland they both fit the age and i liked ford in patriot games. and marky mark is a little bitch with a third nipple. and to me that is definitely NOT sam fisher.

Bruce Willis can not play Shetland, because Shetland is killed by Sam Fisher in SCCT.
Making it look like the video clips in SCCT would make the movie a great hit.

Listen up lady-boy wonders!!!! You don't know jack shit about splinter cell, films, grammar or THE WORLD!!! In fact when was the last time you folks have seen your grease ridden penises past your amorphous bellies? I am not entering into debate with a bunch of inbred gene-pool rejects. Your own mothers probably chewed through your umbilical cords in a vain attempt to cast you to the cruel world which now mocks you with such terms behind your backs as "loser","lamer","saddo","sicko" and not to mention "pervert". It's about time you got up off your lazy reduntant asses and got yourselves something we in the real world refer to as "a life". God rest my eternal soul for i shall burn in hell reading such trash on this page. May you all die slow and cancer ridden deaths.
Love always,The Cheeky Chappy.

By the by, I am the ideal choice to play Sam Fisher in the forthcoming Splinter Cell movie, as I look and sound exactly like old Sam.
I was also in the Gulf War.

I think that, George Clooney should play, Sam Fisher, and, Kate Beckinsale, should play Anna, and, Ving Rhames, should play, Lambert, and, Tom Sizemore, should play as D. Shetland, and, some nerdy guy we all never heard of should play as, W. Redding.

Pleez.... no argument this is funny, I have a good thought 4 good actors. Fisher is Clooney. Lambert is Denzel Washington... Shetland is Bruce Willis. Grim is Monica Belluci. Patridge, if in, is (put idea here). Redding, is some dude that we don't give a shit about cuz Redding is a fag.

Alright you gotta give a little consideration for the original Bad boy, Al Pacino. Sure stunt doubles are going to do all the acrobatic stuff. But if their looking for sequels Clooney would probably be the guy for the job. I don't care I just want this movie!
