It's really different when you see your friends giving up their mental and physical health for a labor of love. These are the people I wouldn't dream of asking for a comp from, because how could I ask for all of that pain and effort for free?

I'm curious whether people's professions (journalist/gamedev) affect this choice. I know that the bigger places get so many comps that they never have to pay for anything (resell, trade in) but the Halo2 is clearly over that line.

Apparently "someguyiknow" has no clue what its like to create something and then have it stolen and passed around for free before you wanted anyone to see it. I recall not letting my friends watch my movies till the premier and it nearly cost me a friendship or two. In the end they always thanked me because they enjoyed it more at the time it was meant to be seen. If someone stole it from me and showed it to everyone I would more then likely lock myself in my room and not come out for many months.

Shame.
Buying it later does help, but you can't just take a car from a dealers showroom because they wheren't ready to sell it, and send them a check next month once that model is for sale.

It pisses me off how much the “little” people that work EXTREMELY hard to provide my entertainment get hurt by piracy… (Hmm...MrDeath wonders how eager everyone would be to grab a pirated copy if there was the remote possibility of a Xbox virus embedded in the game....)
