The beauty of my nightfall
(This entry is for every gamer who ever saw the sun rise...)
A couple things about me that are important to know if we are going to have this Blog/XBox Live based relationship.
Another tid bit to mention is that am a self-employeed writer and set my own hours which is a recipe for disaster given point 1 and 2. My days end up being spent reading Frag Doll emails (seven women can write a heck of a lot when spread out across the U.S.), IMing (a job in itself), and gaming -- segregated carefully into time segments for "fun-only" titles, "competition" titles, and "review" titles -- but always waiting for the beauty of my nightfall.
When I sit in my kingdom (aka my bedroom) I stare outside and wait for dusk. The colors perfectly complement my cigarette and red bull as I brood, until finally there is total blackness. It is as if a heavy blanket covered my windows -- eliminating anything the outside world had previously placed on my overflowing to-do list. The only thing left that exists is my music, my consoles, 2 laptops, my tower, a can of Vienna Sausages and my RIFTs rule book. This is really all I need to be happy these days. In my kingdom I can wear my fuzzy read hat, my "Lick Bush" shirt from the Ministry concert, fuzzy red socks, my Shoryuken hoodie and NO ONE CARES!
Come on, all gamers know what that feeling is like at night: no one calling, no one emailing, no office to be at, no class to make, so many new crazy-good titles who need more tender loving care, and your world is exactly as you want it - all at your fingertips.
I am a kid in her own virtual playground.
This all may sound silly, but tonight when I was sitting here feeling like the luckiest girl in the world, I had to share my joy with someone, and that someone was you. Thanks for sharing it with me.

- I have a little problem with procrastination.
- I am not a morning person. I prefer to never see morning unless I have met her face-on after a marathon session of gaming or a night dancing in my beautiful home city of San Francisco.

We are all lucky. We are all blessed. We do what we love to do for a living. This keeps us warm in the rough times. I look forward to getting back my virtual worlds someday.
For now, your joy will help me remember. Thanks for sharing :)

the 2nd best feeling is waking up at 3-4pm knowing that another night of gaming is so close at hand. that gives you ample time to eat and maybe do some light socializing.

You continue to be, and I would venture always will, one of my favorite people in the world. Thanks for being such an amazing beacon in my life...even though you always deny it. Much love...

Well said, Kat. Nothing like a straight up, honest post. And about gaming and Ministry, nonetheless.
Let me explain my idea of utopia.
My idea of utopia is a night with a whole gaggle of people over, enjoying late night sessions of Burnout 3, Mortal Kombat: Deception, and whatever else enters the ol' Xbox and PS2 as the night progresses, with beer and pizza at hand.
My idea of utopia involves being able to listen to the Garden State soundtrack without someone scratching their head wondering what it's all about. Sometimes something is just there to be taken in, to be enjoyed, and not criticized. (Sadly, this does not go for the movie Taxi. What a wreck that was.)
My idea of utopia is not being in a rush. Sadly, there are times when this just doesn't happen, but when it does, and the day unfolds casually without a care in the world, nothing beats it.
My idea of utopia is good friends and family, and, maybe if I'm lucky, a little something more down the road. But, again, that leads to the no rush thing. Last thing I want to run into is someone who ends up wrecking my idea of utopia.
Thanks again, Kat. :)

DCD - you are rushed because you take on a review ar 2pm, and have it out by 7 - and that includes beating the game. simply amazing.

pretty much the only hours that my brain can focus perfectly...pre-dawn gaming. well, that and pre-dawn recording sessions.

It takes a little longer than that, Kat. I'd say a day at best, since I also need to take time to report initial impressions, write them down, grab some beer and dinner (preferably white cheese pizza- I'm sure you'd kill for some), listen to some Green Day (like "Wake Me Up When September Ends"), and play the game far into enough, online and off, that I have what I need to compose a review.
Of course, with Bad Boys: Miami Takedown, I only played a couple of hours. God, what a horrible game. My idea of utopia is never touching it again. :)
