BloodRayne 2 - Playboy spread
"If you felt teased by her sexy Girls of Gaming cover, then this new feature art is going to blow your mind. Rayne is 100%25 topless and smokin' hot in the October issue of Playboy magazine. This is a first in videogame history and trust us when we say that Rayne does not disappoint."[via BloodRayne site]
After G4oria awards, I finally "got" games=boobs. Fine. That is not going to change anytime soon. But I am a little surprised Majesco went for the Playboy spread. It is a great PR stunt, and will sell copies of the game, but everyone has been walking on media eggshells since Columbine if not before. I am curious to see how this plays out in the press.

If Lara Croft did it, there would be an insane media frenzy.
As is, I dunno. It'll probably come and go with only enough fanfare to make the game a hot commodity.

you all do realize these women are animated applications.

I dunno, I have a feeling this will sell no extra magazines and very few extra games. The audience is past this sort of pandering (I think), and PR may catch up.

Of course they're animated, Kat. But some guys just think boobs are boobs.

if by "some guys" you mean "all guys", then yes, some guys just think boobs are boobs.

Hehe, some guys are more into butts than boobs. It's a prerogative sort of thing.

Puh-leeze. Did the game really sell that good that they're spending so much money for part 2?

It's one of Majesco's biggest sellers, so, yeah.
I'm still trying to figure out how Nightcaster got a sequel myself.

pure hype. "a first in videogame history"? ummm, drawings of nude chicks is what we're talking about here right? pretty sure that genre dates back to the first cave drawings and fertility goddess statuettes.
i guess what's disturbing, (but not novel in this), is the admixture of masturbatory fantasy into simulated violence. not really that interesting to me except as humor, and as you say kat, this is not going to change anytime soon (ever). however, is it inevitable that some troubled kids steeped in the more perverse aspects of "whacking and attacking" go out and behave badly? listening to some of the gamers on my xbox headset, i would say it's probable.

Rimmer: Lister, she's a computer sprite, and surely that's the point; she's just a load of pixels.
Lister: Yeah, but what pixels!

For a magazine that's made its reputation on pictorials of REAL women, this piece, while nice (I guess), is largely a fart in a whirlwind in my opinion. As I've read, very few of the characters profiled are going to be in any stage of undress (Bloodrayne only, I think) and they are renders of digital characters, right? Maxim, FHM, maybe; Playboy? While it is a good hit PR wise, I hardly think that it's going to make their readers rush madly to their local games store when any of these games ship.

Robert, I actually played the first Nightcaster for a weekend. Had the weird fascination of a bad Gauntlet remake with cool spell effects. ;)

Hey c`mon Guys why are you so upset about a character nude, a lot of people love Hantai form japan somethime very hardcore, thats not my kind of stuff but i really like the first bloodrayne and since i heard of a seuqel and the game become "famous" (a lot of covert for video game magazine, a video clip, a movie comming soon, a comic book) i look to buy anything that is bloodrayne, im a fan of the beginning since this was just a "sample ordinary game that media like to talk trash about" . When i saw Ute Werner in the flesh of Rayne at E3 that was a fantasy Come true, yes i like vampire girl, this is a fantasme, i think this is very sexy, but i know rayne is a video game character and see her nude is just "cute" im not gonna jerk off for a "pixel character" but yes i will buy the playboy ONLY for rayne, yes i will spend 8$ for that. I dont buy playboy othertime, if i want to see naked girl i go on the net there a lot...lol but im a rayne fan so yes i will buy all that is stamp BLOODRAYNE
Destro from WOD, a big fan of rayne

Hey, she might be just pixels, but those are SEXY pixels! Alright, seriously, as long as they don't start putting hentai in playboy, I'm fine with very VERY good simulations. I don't unterstand why they didn't just find some drop dead gorgeous red head and dress 'er up like Rayne

I see everyone posting here is obviously old, did it ever occur to you that these types of games are aimed at 20 year old males? Boobs are boobs, a well modeled animated female doesn't look much different than the real thing on paper. Get over it.

ok - I have to say it is a little realistic. And I have read quite a few playboy mags (actually for the articles, the short stories are so fantastic), but I have the same issue with that above link that I do with Playboy in general. They don't look like real women. Now Suicide Girls is a great example of women who look like real women. She just looks so fake..
Come on, if you were a real "i can kill your ass in a blink of en eye" chick, would you get a boob job? The illustration even drew her with fake breasts. I would like to think she is all natural. No one is going to take a knife to her unless it is in a dark alley, and they plan on never leaving alive.

How is the much different than the air-brushing that goes on anyway? Least they are more truthful with their final product this time around.

Kat has a good point.

I think even though she is created looking hot, she doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of her looks. She'd just as soon take your head off as look at you. And you'd never catch her posing as long as there are victims waiting.

From my point of view I believe that it says a lot of us as society and as human beings the new trend of animated characters becoming more and more influential in male fantasies. The fact that now they are on playboy magazine it’s really sad and decadent even perverted and I wonder to myself: What’s next? Where’s the limit? Is the next thing a female bot to please your desires like in the science fiction movies? What’s happening with the role of the women in male fantasies and male social life? Maybe I’m wrong but I think a lot of changes in the last decades have been for worst. To me it’s like the people who only have dates or friends on a chat room or a forum just because by being in front of a screen it’s easier for them and also because they are too afraid of going out and socialize with real people. An yeah maybe it’s not that big deal but think for a minute about how affects the new generations that grow up with all this as a natural thing and they begin to incorporate this in they’re own lives. What can you expect from a 14, 16 yeas old kid that now prefers having fantasies with an animated character over to spending time with a real girl of his age?

I don't like real women. I don't want a damn real girl. It's so stupid. I'd rather spend time with my own fantasies, since they're so much better and hotter than any real chick could ever be. That's why I think the faker the better. And you "real" guys make me sick to my stomach. You can't even see my point here, can you? You look at this comment and think, boy what a freak. You're nearly a laugh, but you're really a cry, that Pink Floyd song says... Rayne is a fantasy and I prefer her, for she can never do any damage to my damn heart and leave me an emotional wreck. No, sir, she is only there for me to experience the pleasure I want without bothering me like a real woman would. And I'm not saying I don't want to have a family. I just prefer being with Rayne rather than a whole bunch of real girls until I'm grown enough for a family. No AIDS, no heartaches - just pure fantasy and fun with no damn restrictions or questions. Screw real girls! Haha! ;)

okay wait...I totallly missed this issue as I niether read (nor stare at) Playboy. But did someone say the words "fake boobs" in the context of "if your were an ass kicker etc..."
ugh...
No my beef might be more "hey she's a female that can toss men like noah's ark tosses salad" where's there ROOM for fatty cells?
but the logic of complaining that a powerful nonhuman (as in doesn't exist) Dhampyr etc etc....that's pixelated no less, having "fake breasts".
um... tbh I really don't want my kids playing such crap more for the violence then the naughty bits but *shrugs* hey if it's outrage at unrelistis spreading of shadowed polygons...okay.
Having played the game I'm more disturbed by two things: the blood IS realistic and the chopping and dices....ouchies...and second by the fact playboy just keeps on stooping....
mostly though i saw the pic in the link above and shrugged though...it was the whole irony of fake cartoon boobs in such a "respectable" (quotes may denote sarcasm) mag that made me HAVE to post:P
LOL

For a pixelized video game chick she's pretty hot. I'd love to see a game with Croft and Rayne.. co-op purrhaps. Part one of this series rocked. the controls on part two sucked making it a bad game, imo. If they're bringing a part 3 for the next gen systems please do two things: 1 Be able to adjust your controls for PC and 2 make her bigger and bouncier.. bwhahah just kidding-- 2 Make it so you can adjust the difficulty.
