I've been Ogamized!

If you were at E3, you saw the long line at the 1up booth to get your picture taken. This was the first infusion of users into the new 1up.com, currently called Ogamo.

What is Ogamo? It is friendsters for gamers. You can add your game collection and see what games you have in common with your friends, basic groups are available, they have a built in blogger application, and customizable news feeds for your home page.

Let me preface everything by saying I think this is a great idea. I tried to talk my boss into doing this last year, and we were shot down. For good reason. At the time, including myself, we had 3 programmers, and already working 60 hour weeks. In fact, there is only one site I can think of who actually has the staff to really pull something like this off.

The new Ogamo, while full of cool ideas, still has a long way to go before it is usable. As it stands in beta, the flash navigation is hard to use, the people search does not seem to work, discussion boards in groups are not working, someone needs to send a CSS book over to the blogger crew, and the personalized URL gives a 403 error. This is all the typical beta stuff that will be worked through. This idea has a lot of potential, and 1up has a great shot, but my biggest concern is that they will replace 1up.com (a user friendly site) with Ogamo. It is very obvious that the design resources on the two sites were not the same.

I'll ask around and see what the deal is. By the way, you can (try) to find me at "DeadKat". Look for the red hat.

I don't know why, but I was reading a doom 3 review and not two clicks later, did I see a reference to you on 1up. You are ubiquitous.

And if you can introduce me to Jennie Sue, it would be greatly appreciated. ;)

So when are we getting that drink that was scheduled for Saturday? I'm feeling the itch to ditch.
